Nearly 20 percent of the safest communities in America are right here in Massachusetts, according to Neighborhood Scout.
Nineteen of the top 100 safest cities in America are right here in Massachusetts. That’s according to a new 2019 list from Neighborhood Scout, which takes property and violent crime data and measures it against a community’s population.
The list is only made up of cities with 25,000 or more residents. The crime data comes from the 2017 calendar year and was released in late 2018. You can get the full methodology here.
According to Neighborhood Scout, the safest place to be in Massachusetts is Franklin. In fact, the Norfolk County city is the second-safest place in the country behind only Lake in the Hills, IL. The website said the odds of being a victim of a crime in Franklin are just 1 in 300.
Shrewsbury is said to be the third-safest place in the country, with Marshfield coming in sixth. No. 19 Reading was the only other Massachusetts community in the top 20 and the highest-ranking Middlesex County community.
